Eric Shen is an accomplished guitarist born in Taipei, Taiwan. He is passionate about jazz and blues guitar traditions and seeks to push the genres in new directions.
His music influences range from Jimi Hendrix to Wayne Shorter.
He moved to Los Angeles in 2016, receiving two scholarships to attend Musicians Institute in Hollywood. He was given the opportunity to study with great jazz-based musicians such as Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds, Sid Jacobs, Mark Cally and Matt Hornbeck.
Before moving to Los Angeles, he had already been devoting himself to music for many years. Although he was a banker by day, he worked as a musician by night. He was a jazz and blues house band guitarist at Sappho Jazz club in Taipei, where he played with musicians from all over the world. In 2013, he participated in Taiwan region Fender electric guitar solo contest and reached the finals. In 2016, he recorded blues guitar for a TV show “Rich House Poor House” in China for an award-winning playwright and theater director, Stan Lai.
Since Eric quit his banker job and moved to Los Angeles for pursuing his music full time, he has developed a deep background in jazz and is currently released his first jazz single with LA jazz legend Nolan Shaheed. He has an active jazz trio band and is part of the Big Band Swing Express, in Los Angeles.
